Product Reviews:

 Rating 2   Higher powers?
I imagine I'll get roundly criticized for this, given I've only read the first 20 pages and am now giving a review, but I had to post this: Since Bradshaw's first calling was priesthood, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at his statement that "...we cannot escape the common sense conclusion there are many higher powers that shape our lives" (p. 19). But putting this in a self-help book that is marketed as a secular entity, to be read by countless vulnerable people looking for ways to live healthy lives, is incredibly irresponsible. It may be common sense to him, but to me it is decidedly not. And given his intended audience, I can imagine a lot of readers considering this statement (and other similar ones, such as "Anyone who has nurtured healthy shame and experienced awe and reverence for the immensity of life must acknowledge the numinous [i.e. the experience of God; p. 18-19] to be condescending. Granted, I may not have "nurtured healthy shame", but I know of at least one other person who is completely in love with life, and who is a staunch atheist. She certainly has a reverence for the immensity of life. I may wind up posting a second "review", because he has said some relevant and accurate things so far (even if he does repeat himself a lot and largely borrows from other sources), but right now I am angered by this book--not merely for myself, but for the other pained, vulnerable people who may have read this book and probably got disenfranchised and disappointed by Bradshaw's assumption that because HE believes it, WE do. I'm probably taking this way too much to heart, but when you want to help yourself get better and then you read something like this, it's really off-putting.

 Rating 5   Best Self-help!
This book and Soul without Shame are the best self-help books I have ever read. Brown and Bradford hit the nail on the head when it comes to self-judgement - you will just get it once you start reading and you will not be able to put it down. I am very grateful to both.

Rating 1   Cant make sense of this one
Sorry..I know this author is suppose to be groundbreaking and fabulous, but this reads more like someones master degree thesis...It only offers case histories, no real direction for healing.

Rating 1   did not even recieve the book yet!!!!
How can I review the book when I haven't received it? I have tried e-mailing the store. NO response. I am in the midst of lodging a formal complaint. What must I do for someone to take this seriously? I will never, ever recommend this seller to anyone, Peace-of-mind books. This was my first purchase at Amazon, and I have been thoroughly disappointed and unimpressed.

Rating 4   self help, recovery books
These are great books. I used them a long time ago, and they helped me a lot. I bought these for my sons for christmas. Very good condition for the money and very pleased.
