Product Reviews:

 Rating 5   Grateful
I am very pleased with the dateline being met for delivery of the second hand book, and the good condition it is in. A great idea to purchase used books.

 Rating 5   Great Book
This book is great. It has practical things that you can do right away, and it has a lot of great information.

Rating 5   A valuable handbook on stress management
This is a very comprehensive review of stress management techniques for healing trauma. When combined with an active program of mindfulness meditation, then you will certainly have a winning combination. I use some of the same approaches when working with PTSD clients as a mindfulness-based psychotherapist. If you would like to learn more about mindfulness meditation to compliment this book then I also recommend 'The Path of Mindfulness Meditation' available through Amazon.

 Rating 5   Waking the Tiger
This is groundbreaking research into the science of trauma. For anyone who has ever experienced this painful reality, this book offers an understanding that is not yet available through mainstream medical literature. Well worth the time to read, and an invaluable resource that can be referred to many times.

 Rating 5   A Profound Work
I cannot praise Peter's work enough; it is absolutely brilliant and in my personal opinion, Peter Levine, for his initial insight into the fight/flight response of animals and how it relates to human trauma as well as the tremendous body of research and understanding he has built over 30 plus years, deserves to win the Nobel Peace Prize for the work he has accomplished thus far; as I believe wholeheartedly if somatic experiencing were integrated into our global society, wars would cease, as human kind discovered its innate capacity to heal. My advice to the potential buyer is to do what I did: buy it, read it, read it again and then once more... all the while integrating the daily exercises into your life (and find a Somatic Experiencing coach if needed) so that you can begin the process of getting out of your head and into your body. If you commit to doing the daily work, put one foot in front of the other (so to speak), slowly little revelations, self-discoveries and even your dreams will help form a resourcefulness and self-reliance that will offer up true life transformation (a way out of whatever self-defeating loop led you into the "self-help aisle"). As a personal aside, I wish a therapist had introduced me to this work years ago instead of regurgitating the same old cognitive behavioral work that kept me fixed in a loop of intellectual detachment and momentary catharsis. Waking the Tiger is not a book that can be read once and put on a shelf to be truly realized; it is in the re-reading of this book, listening to Peter's CD (not sold with the book) and a daily commitment to the gentle body work, which takes a few minutes, that you will hone your innate capacity to listen to your body, to begin to heal and truly realize that while wandering somewhat aimlessly down the self-help aisle, you somehow discovered a book that can help you bring about your own true self transformation. I am profoundly grateful for this text and for the man who so graciously shared it with us!!
