Instant Self-Hypnosis The information in the book is clear and easy to follow. My problem with it is that it hasn't worked for me. At least not yet. It's been two months or so and I would have expected some results by now.
I was skeptical, but it's a great book! I'm really surprised to be rating this book so highly. I didn't take it very seriously at first, but checked it out because Dr. Amen recommends meditation and self-hypnosis as techniques for improving brain health.
I have been absolutely amazed at the great results I'm getting. I've been doing one self-hypnosis session in the morning on "being true to myself", and another in the evening on "not snoring". I've been amazed at how well self-hypnosis is helping me to accomplish these two goals! My morning session on "being true to myself" really sticks with me all day, helping me to make decisions that help me toward my own goals, rather than falling into every time-waster that comes my way, or saying "yes" when I want to say "no".
I was even more skeptical when I decided to try self-hypnosis as a way to stop snoring. But it has worked! There wasn't a "stop snoring" script in the book, so I created my own (that's one of the best things about the book... it helps you to create your own scripts if there isn't already a script that fits your situation). I decided to try it, because I know that I snore when I clench my jaw at night. I knew that if I could just learn to relax my jaw all night, I wouldn't snore anymore. So I created a script and used it, and it WORKED!!! If I start to snore at night, I become aware of it, I wake up and relax my jaw, and go right back to sleep.
AMAZING!
As other reviewers have pointed out, this book is only effective if you actually WANT to accomplish what you say you want to accomplish. If you think you should quit smoking, but you really want to keep smoking and aren't truly ready to quit, this book won't be very effective. But if you're really ready to make a change, this book will help you to do it!
In hindsight, it makes a lot of sense for this to work so well. I'm programming my mind to pay attention to what's important to me. Instead of paying attention to traffic jams, the broken copy machine, etc. I've trained my mind in that morning's hypnosis session to stay on track with my goals.
great book, very helpful This is really a great book if you want to work with yourself to transform your life.
Forget self-help
Along with the Sedona Method this is one of the finest books I've read and it's
easy to apply, it's practical and problem-solving.
Seriously, purchase this book, go through it as patiently as you can and forget
self-help and all its annoying and never-ending wanabeeism. But make sure you
don't burn yourself in the process by following the guidelines I will mention:
1)First off, go through this book without jumping to wanting to get hypnotized to
quick. That is, read it as you would any book until you get to the scripts. From
then on, you choose your route.
2) This is a critical point. Make sure you work when you have plenty of stamina
and mental alertness to discourage loosing interest and wanting to doze off. I
can't stress this enough, you must have a heightened degree of concentration and
sense of being present to not feel as though the therapeutic process is taking too
long.(Keep in mind the duration of the relaxation excercise and your script of
choice can last well over 20 minutes)
Once you have come this far you're in for the treat of treats! The book reveals
itself to be nearly limitless in its possibilities and in what it has to offer
you. You can be taught through its pages to write your own scripts by following
guidelines contained inside. I haven't gotten there yet but that's the beauty of
this book, you know there are plenty of more treasures to dig for even when you're
enjoying all the good it has already brought you. The good measured in poise,
uplifting self-talk, beautiful feelings, absence of anxiety, nervousness, fear. As
the days go by, your natural skepticism and/or apathy toward what you can expect
will be washed away and be replaced by an expectation to further engage in more
and more fulfilling self-hypnosis experiences.
And it finally dispels the terrible connotations associated with hypnosis. The
very author talks about this. We all know how boring and not applicable can
closing your eyes for such a long time span be without drifting off or entirely
loosing touch with awareness to a point of frustration. That is highly unlikely to
happen in the same degree keeping your eyes open. Focus is intense, and finally
after so many years of searching, relaxation feels complete.
P.S. I purchased the utter crap of emwave for $200 when I could have gotten this
book first for 1/20 of the price. Learn from the mistakes of others. Learn from
mine.
Seems like a good start into hypnosis I'm new to hypnosis and this seemed to be a well reviewed book on Amazon so I gave it a try. I can't say that I felt like I went into a hypnotic state when reading the scripts but I can't say either that it wasn't working (the author tells you that you might not sense that it has happened, which does seem a bit convenient for him). That said, I ended up recording the scripts and then listening to them and that does seem to be working. My next step is to start using the tools the author gives you to create your own scripts that can be tailored more specifically to your needs.
So I don't rate this book as perfect, but for $10 it gives you a great introduction to self-hypnosis, very good scripts and then the tools to create your own. It's pretty short money for something that can be powerful tool to help deal with issues. I bought the book because I was dealing with anxiety. If that's what brought you here, then consider Edmund Bourne's Anxiety & Phobias in conjunction with this book. I think that book has been a more direct help and I'm using this book to supplement that one.
