Healthy eating book This book arrived quite quickly after I ordered it. It arrived in excellent shape. Since I had ordered it for a friend, I did not read it.
feeding the hungry heart The book was delivered in good condition and in a timely manner. I purchased this book for a friend I read it myself some years ago and felt it would be relevant to my friends issues.
terrific all systems go: received quickly, in good order, book in excellent shape, in fact the plus is the book was very helpful to me
Lots of other women's stories, but some hidden gems Feeding the Hungry Heart: The Experience of Emotional Eating is a book I've wanted to read for some time. I'm an emotional eater and I was interested to read what Roth, a noted "expert" on overeating and emotional eating had to say. This book is 25 years old, and focused on a lot of case stories (mostly women married to uncaring men!).
I found a lot to resonate with, but I couldn't shake the feeling that I was reading the "left overs" of another better book, and I probably was as I've since discovered this was about the third book Roth had written on the topic. I plan on hunting down her first book as I have a feeling it will have more of the information I'm looking for about emotional eating and less of the stories from women who have the problem.
Shines a Compassionate Light on a Stigmatized Problem I saw that some reviewers criticized this book for not providing a way out of the problem. Yes, it's just a description, but what a description! Roth is an eloquent and moving writer.
Before "Feeding the Hungry Heart" was published in 1982, no one talked about compulsive eating. It was a taboo topic, shrouded in shame. "Feeding the Hungry Heart" shined a light in an area where there had been no light. Its compassionate perspective helps others with the problem feel more compassionate towards themselves.
This book may not supply all the answers, but having compassion towards yourself is a crucial first step towards recovery from compulsive eating, and often the hardest.
